Netflix’s release of 'Monster: The Ed Gein Story' has viewers hooked, but many were distracted from the chilling true crime narrative after spotting a familiar face from the cast of 'The Big Bang Theory.' The latest offering from director and writer Ryan Murphy continues his exploration of real-life horror, following previous seasons dedicated to Jeffrey Dahmer and the Menendez brothers.
This season puts the spotlight on Ed Gein, portrayed by Charlie Hunnam, painting a disturbing picture of the killer’s morbid fascination with killing and skinning bodies.
The series does not shy away from the horrific details, with violence seemingly unindulged, a characteristic of Murphy’s recent work which simply depicts the real-life crimes of its subjects.
Gein's crimes, which provided terrifying fodder for tabloid magazines and inspired horror classics like *Psycho* and *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre*, are brought directly to life.
Despite the grim nature of the series, fans of 'The Big Bang Theory' were quick to share their thoughts online after recognising the uncredited star.
The show features several controversial creative liberties, including a scene where 24-year-old TikTok star Addison Rae, who plays Evelyn Hartley, is tied up in her underwear, and the appearance of the Nazi war criminal Ilse Koch, played by Vicky Krieps, in Gein's psychosexual fantasies.
In the closing moments, an aged Gein is even shown being thanked by Charles Manson, Ed Kemper, and Jeffrey Dahmer.
