Heritage Open Days return this September, offering free events across Derbyshire and the Peak District from September 12 to 21.
Twelve sites participate, providing exclusive tours and activities themed around architecture.
Highlights include candlelit tours of Hartshorne Upper Hall, a 1620s timber-framed manor; operational displays at Middleton Top Engine House with 1829 beam engines; pop-up exhibitions on Bakewell archaeological finds; guided walks through Eckington to Renishaw Hall's Italianate gardens (fully booked); tours of Spital Cemetery's Grade II listed structures; a climate change lecture at Derby Arboretum; guided tours of Lightwood Reservoir's natural architecture; Swadlincote Heritage Fest with music, food, and activities; tours of Elder Yard Unitarian Chapel's 17th-century features; surface tours of Magpie Mine, the last Peak District lead mine; organ recitals at St John the Baptist Church Buxton; and Derbyshire Conservation and Heritage Crafts Festival at Cromford Mills with workshops and demos.
Supported by the National Trust and People's Postcode Lottery, these volunteer-powered events celebrate England's heritage, offering glimpses into unique sites usually closed to the public.
