Arsenal's executive vice-chair, Tim Lewis, has unexpectedly departed the club, a move that is part of a broader boardroom reshaping.
Lewis, who has been involved with the Kroenke Sports and Entertainment (KSE) group since 2007 and became executive vice-chair in 2023, played a pivotal role in the club's recent success, including their substantial summer transfer spending.
Stan and Josh Kroenke will remain as co-chairs, while Richard Garlick, who joined Arsenal in 2021 as director of football operations, will now serve as chief executive.
Garlick is regarded as a respected and measured figure in football, having previously worked at West Brom and as the Premier League's director of football during the challenges of Covid.
The club has also announced the addition of KSE's Kelly Blaha and Otto Maly as non-executive directors, alongside producer and long-time fan Ben Winston.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's manager, expressed his sadness at Lewis's departure but conveyed confidence in the club's future, stating that the new structure and the owners' vision will lead to 'big things ahead.' The timing of Lewis's departure is a shock to many, especially given his recent successes.
His departure will also be closely watched in the football world, as Lewis was a forceful voice in Premier League politics.
Arteta also provided a team update, noting that captain Martin Odegaard has not trained due to a shoulder injury but may still feature in the upcoming match against Manchester City.
