Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the contract situations of key players Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, stating that the work to secure their futures has not slowed down.
Both players, aged 24, are in the final two years of their current contracts, which expire in 2027.
Saliba, a center-back, had previously expressed his hope of signing a new deal with the club.
Arsenal has been proactive in securing its top talent, having already signed Saliba's partner and young prospects to long-term contracts.
Arteta, speaking before Arsenal's match with Nottingham Forest, confirmed that sporting director Andrea Berta is leading the discussions with the players' agents.
'The good thing is the players want to remain here and they want to be a big part of the history in this club over the next few years,' Arteta said.
The manager's comments come amid previous speculation linking Saliba with a move to Real Madrid, which the player has said he doesn't think about.
Saka has also stated his desire to win trophies 'wearing this Arsenal badge.' In other team news, Saka has been ruled out of the upcoming match against Forest with a hamstring injury, while Saliba, who has an ankle issue, was able to participate in training.
The Gunners have had a busy summer, spending around £300 million as they aim to win their first trophy since 2020.
Arteta also spoke about the squad's clarity following the transfer window and expressed his happiness with the team.
He expects a tough game against Nottingham Forest, who are now managed by former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou.
