Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca faced a "complete nightmare" of an afternoon following a humiliating 3-1 home defeat to Brighton at Stamford Bridge, a result that plunged the club deeper into crisis.
The match was marred by a moment that "changed everything" early in the second half, when defender Trevoh Chalobah was sent off for bringing down Diego Gomez after a stray pass from Andrey Santos gifted the ball to the Brighton player.
VAR confirmed the referee's decision to issue a red card to the England international, leaving the Blues to play the majority of the second half with ten men.
Brighton capitalised ruthlessly, with Danny Welbeck scoring twice after coming off the bench, and Maxim De Cuyper also netting, piling misery onto Maresca.
Following the defeat, Chelsea's co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali was seen marching straight into the dressing room alongside several club officials.
Maresca, however, played down the incident, claiming that such visits from the ownership are a regular occurrence.
This managerial debut at Stamford Bridge has been slammed by pundits.
