Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison has identified a lack of confidence and service as the key reasons behind Ollie Watkins' goal drought at Aston Villa.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's 'Football Daily' podcast, Morrison observed that Watkins had a 'golden opportunity' to score with a header in a recent game but 'completely missed it,' indicating a lack of confidence.
Morrison says the main issue is that Watkins' teammates are not creating as many chances for him this season, a problem that he attributes to the departures of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford, two players who were particularly effective for the team last season.
While Villa brought in Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott, Morrison notes that they 'haven't started many games,' which he says is a major problem that needs to be addressed for the team to create more scoring opportunities.
Morrison also believes that another Villa player, Morgan Rogers, is also 'really struggling' with a lack of confidence.
Despite these issues, Morrison remains optimistic about Aston Villa's prospects, stating that he does not 'worry about Villa' and still believes they will 'climb the table and finish in the top half.' His analysis provides insight into the challenges facing the team's attack and suggests that changes in personnel or strategy are needed to help their strikers regain their form.
