Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russia's top diplomat, used a global address to reassure world leaders that his nation harbours "no intention of attacking Europe," yet simultaneously issued a stern warning that any act of aggression against Russia "will be met with a decisive response".
This statement comes amidst heightened alarm across Europe, triggered by a recent spate of unauthorised flights into NATO airspace, incidents that have been widely blamed on Russia.
The tension escalated significantly following recent events where NATO jets were forced to down drones over both Poland and Estonia, after Russian fighter jets were reported to have entered Estonian territory.
However, Russia has vehemently denied that its planes violated Estonian airspace and has also rejected claims that the drones were targeting Poland.
Moscow's ally, Belarus, backed this denial, maintaining that the devices were actually sent off course due to Ukrainian signal-jamming efforts.
Mr.
Lavrov countered the accusations by maintaining that, despite the international narrative, it is in fact Russia itself that is currently facing threats.
