US President Donald Trump has issued a severe ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the militant group agree to his 20-point Gaza peace plan by Sunday at 6 pm Washington time (11 pm BST).
Writing in all capital letters on his Truth Social platform, Trump warned that if this 'LAST CHANCE agreement' is not reached, 'all HELL like no one has ever seen before will break out against' Hamas.
The President, who unveiled the plan alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the week, insisted that the militant group is surrounded and 'MILITARILY TRAPPED,' merely waiting for his command to be 'quickly extinguished' if they choose rejection.
Trump’s stark messaging indicates a rapid loss of patience with the ongoing negotiations and the apparent divisions within Hamas's leadership over accepting the terms.
While various Israeli media reports suggested Hamas was likely to respond positively with only minor amendments, reports from the BBC indicated that Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the head of Hamas’s military wing in Gaza, is determined to keep fighting and opposes the plan.
Trump concluded his post with a definitive and capitalised declaration: 'THERE WILL BE PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.' This stark warning puts enormous pressure on Hamas to concede to the terms of the proposal, which is designed to bring an end to the protracted two-year conflict in the region.
