In a series of recent events, President Donald Trump has made controversial comments regarding broadcast networks and demonstrated a notable social faux pas at a royal event.
Speaking to reporters, the president suggested that networks airing largely negative coverage of him should have their government-approved broadcasting licenses revoked.
He stated, 'All they do is hit Trump.
They're licensed.
They're not allowed to do that.' Free expression advocates were alarmed by the comments, as the FCC does not regulate content and is legally prohibited from censoring broadcast matter.
Trump's remarks came amid criticism that his administration influenced the suspension of comedian Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show.
The Trump-appointed FCC chair, Brendan Carr, had previously issued a statement to ABC suggesting the government 'might take action' after Kimmel's controversial comments.
In a separate incident at a state banquet at Windsor Castle, President Trump appeared to snub Queen Camilla.
During his speech, he thanked King Charles and Queen Camilla but looked down at Princess Kate, who was seated to his right, when addressing her and Prince William.
He told the royal couple, 'William and Kate, thank you so much, it's been great being with you today, thank you very much, we appreciate it,' an unusual break from protocol.
The awkward moment occurred during his second state visit to the UK, which he described as 'truly one of the highest honours of my life.' The president also praised the King for raising 'a remarkable son' in the Prince of Wales.
