Asahi, one of the world's largest beer producers with a global portfolio including Peroni, Asahi Super Dry, Grolsch, and Fuller's London Pride, confirmed it has been the target of a cyberattack.
The attack resulted in a 'system failure' that has disrupted the company's internal operations exclusively within Japan.
Crucially, the brewer issued a swift clarification to the international market, stating, 'The system failure is limited to our operations within Japan.
None of Asahi’s manufacturing operations in Europe, including its UK beer supply, are impacted by this incident.' This rapid assurance reflected concern about potential ripple effects in international markets, which often panic following a major supply chain disruption.
In a previous assessment report, Asahi had identified a cyberattack as a main risk, acknowledging its potential to interrupt business operations and damage its brand, and stated the company was preparing for such an eventuality.
The incident comes amid a wider spate of similar breaches targeting global companies, including automakers and retailers.
While the extent of the disruption in Japan is being managed internally, the quick update from Asahi aims to stabilise international confidence in its ability to maintain supply across its major European markets.
