UK high street retailer Bodycare, known for its budget-friendly health and beauty products, has announced the closure of an additional 30 stores across the country following its entry into administration earlier this month.
The decision comes on top of the 32 store closures initially confirmed, resulting in hundreds of job losses.
Administrators from Interpath have stated that while interest has been expressed by potential buyers for some of the remaining 85 stores, it is no longer financially viable to keep all locations trading due to rising operational costs and supply chain challenges.
The closures will see 14 stores shut immediately, with 16 more to follow later in the week, impacting approximately 250 employees who will be made redundant.
Founded in Lancashire in the 1970s, Bodycare once employed 1,500 people but has struggled in recent years with shifting consumer habits, online competition, and reduced foot traffic on the high street.
Administrators have pledged to support affected employees, assisting them with claims to the Redundancy Payments Service.
They remain hopeful of securing deals to preserve some jobs and keep select stores open under new ownership.
Retail analysts note that Bodycare’s troubles are indicative of wider challenges faced by brick-and-mortar retailers in the UK, with rising costs and changing shopping behaviours putting pressure on long-established brands.
Customers are being advised to use gift cards as soon as possible while the company continues to trade in a limited capacity during the administration process.
