US President Donald Trump has demanded a rapid conclusion to the peace talks over Gaza, sending a brutal five-word warning to Hamas via his Truth Social platform: 'I will not tolerate delay'.
This follows his earlier ultimatum that 'all HELL like no one has ever seen before will break out against Hamas' if a deal was not agreed upon by the Sunday evening deadline.
Hamas had responded to Trump's 20-point plan with a qualified acceptance, agreeing to the immediate exchange of all Israeli hostages and to hand over governance of Gaza to Palestinian technocrats.
Trump appeared to welcome this, writing, 'Based on the statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE'.
He then called on Israel to 'immediately stop the bombing of Gaza so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly'.
However, the militant group did not agree to the provision calling for its military wing to permanently disarm, and a senior Hamas official indicated the group would only consider disarming after the Israeli occupation ends.
The vagueness of the 20-point plan has led to entirely different public interpretations from Trump, Netanyahu, and Hamas, creating implementation difficulties.
Reactions in Gaza ranged from hope that the war might end to deep suspicion that Hamas may have walked into a trap to lose its hostages.
