Instead of facing a potential £57.1m fine, Anglian Water has agreed to spend £62.8m to help stop sewage spills and fund environmental projects.
According to the regulator Ofwat, this money will come from company shareholders and will be used to ensure spills from storm overflows are minimized.
The company's CEO, Mark Thurston, stated that £1bn will be set aside by 2030 to spend on storm tanks and other solutions to halve the number of spills.
