News providers across the UK, including major titles like the *Mirror*, the *Express*, and the *Daily Record*, are uniting to raise awareness about the value and importance of trusted, fact-based journalism.
The initiative highlights that in 2025, the profession is more threatened than ever, while access to reliable information is critically important.
Journalists are increasingly facing dangers, including being the victims of stalking, harassment, and physical violence simply for carrying out their duties.
At the publisher Reach alone, online threats of violence and attempts to discredit or intimidate journalists have more than doubled year-on-year.
Globally, the situation is dire, with many journalists killed because of their work, often covering stories that would otherwise go untold.
The industry warns that if these attempts to silence journalists succeed, the vacuum created would see verified, fact-checked information become severely depleted and completely "swamped by opinion, conjecture and unreliable information dressed as fact".
The goal is to remind the public that journalism is a vital, trusted source of verified information in times of both strife and celebration.
