A murder investigation is underway in Birmingham after a man in his 30s tragically died from injuries sustained in a house fire in Highters Heath.
West Midlands Police, along with fire and ambulance services, were called to a property on Saxons Way shortly before 1:10 a.m.
The man was found seriously injured and, despite being taken to the hospital for treatment, died a short time later.
Police believe the fire was started deliberately.
The investigation is in its early stages as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances.
Officers remain at the scene, and police are appealing for anyone with information or footage to come forward.
The incident has deeply shocked the local community.
Two men, who raised the alarm after hearing a 'bang,' are being hailed as heroes for their efforts to save lives.
They alerted neighbors and fire services and helped a woman from a neighboring property to safety.
West Midlands Fire Service confirmed that three fire engines responded to the scene, and a man was rescued by firefighters.
The fire was contained to one property and was extinguished by 1:45 a.m.
The victim's family has visited the scene, where flowers have been left in tribute.
Forensic officers are also on site, working to piece together what happened.
Residents expressed their sadness and horror over the 'horrendous' event, with one local saying, 'It's truly shocking.
I hope they catch whoever did this.' The incident occurred in a small cul-de-sac off Glenavon Road, located in the south of the city near the Worcestershire border.
