Marc Brew, a dancer who was the sole survivor of a terrible car crash at age 20, recounts his journey after being left paralysed from the chest down, forcing him to learn to live in a new, uncharted reality.
The crash occurred on a motorway near Johannesburg when a pickup, driven by a drunk driver, came hurtling down the wrong side of the road and drove straight into the car Brew was in.
The accident tragically killed his three friends and fellow dancers: Joanne, Simon, and Toby, who was only 16.
Brew, now 48, was eventually told by a doctor that he would never walk again, a moment that was like a movie for the professional dancer.
This news, combined with the later discovery that his friends had died, was a devastating blow.
He felt a huge lot of responsibility as the only survivor, deciding he now had to survive for his friends' honour.
Brew began dancing again two years after leaving rehabilitation, having been connected with disability activist and dancer Kitty Lunn.
He developed a new dance style that relies on his incredible upper body strength and complete precision of movement, often performing on the floor and lifting himself using his arms.
His biggest and most ambitious work is his recent project, An Accident A Life, a collaboration with choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, which directly tells the story of the car crash.
He only introduces a wheelchair in the final five minutes to challenge audience perceptions of disabled artists.
Brew moved to London in 2003 and now runs his own dance ensemble in Glasgow, where he lives with his partner Matthew and son Jedidiah.
He has reached the point where he feels empowered by his disability, calling himself more creative and adaptable and never taking no for an answer, continuing to dance even though he was told he couldn't.
