The Jersey Communication Foundation (JCF) has announced a significant boost for social mobility on the island, distributing grants exceeding £23,000 to six carefully selected projects.
The funding is designed to create a "level playing field for everyone in Jersey," according to JCF CEO Anna Terry.
Social mobility is defined by the charity as the capacity to change one's social and economic circumstances through access to education, employment, and opportunity.
Terry highlighted that a person's potential should not be dictated by their family background, school, or residential area, noting that issues like the cost-of-living crisis, selective school systems, and a changing job market often unfairly limit an individual's chances.
Current beneficiaries of the fund include the Jersey Basketball Association, ArtHouse Jersey, and Samares School.
The JCF has opened a new funding round, which closes on October 31, offering grants from £500 to £10,000 for registered charities and local schools.
Eligible projects span after-school and holiday programmes, creative arts initiatives, mentoring schemes, skills training, and supported work placements.
